Fashionable Yet Modest

Assalamualaikum dear friends and readers,

Thank you for taking your time to visit this blog, read and leave some valuable comments. I really appreciate your feedbacks on the things that I've shared here. After I posted about Mr. Hatta Dolmat's creations last night, I kept thinking about the attitude of our Muslim designers who created so many beautiful-to-look-at designs but not aurah appropriate. It's not just the local Malaysian designers but generally the Muslim designers all over the world.

So far, I only approve designs from Munawwarah Designs, Yasmin Siddik, Amal Murad, SunnahStyle, and Shukr, just to name a few well known designers or fashion companies which specified in Islamic fashion. Please be assured that I'm no fashion expert but as a consumer and a person who love Islamic fashion passionately, I think I have the right to voice my opinion.

Amal Murad

I have a big hope for the local Muslim designers. I wish whenever they want to come out with a new line of creation for Muslimah they will take great care in following the Islamic dress code. Hopefully they can create many fashionable clothes yet they are very modest. Just look at the abayat created by Mrs. Amal Murad, they are very elegant and stylo at the same time very modest.

Sunnah Style

Don't just create clothes that will be praised in the fashion market as beautiful, gorgeous and trendy but defy the main purpose of clothing which is to secure our dignity. Maybe the designers that created the not-so-proper Islamic clothes can't really understand and see the soul in creating a real modest yet fashionable attires because they themselves are not practicing Muslims. Sorry to say but I've seen a lot of them in this country. Just read about them in the mainstream media and many fashion and women magazines.

Apart from the designers and the companies that I've mentioned above, do you know any other designers and fashion companies that designed or manufactured fashionable yet modest Islamic clothing? Please share information about them with me. Thank you.

NONA, End of Year Issue

Assalamualaikum everyone!
May peace and blessings of Allah be upon us all.
I'm back in the office today after a week of Eid holiday. The special things of working at this Islamic community library is that I will always have a week holiday for every Eids. Fun isn't it?
Well, back to the magazine above, I seldom bought this NONA magazine because the size is too big for my bag and also I'm not very interested in the issues inside. Not because they are not fun to read but because I already have 3 muslimah magazines that I bought regularly and the contents are almost the same.
However, a few days before Eid, I was captured by it's cover. Anyone can guess?
Anyone?
Oh, okay... the models are wearing (gorgeous) abayat. You know I can't resist, so I just bought it just to ogle at those abayat, LOL.
Inside you can see the stories of each models, I'm not gonna tell you about it because most Malaysian know them already. All are hijabi celebrities. Anyway, let's look at their abayat:

Their abayat are nice to look at but not suitable at all for a commoner like me. They are too fancy but gorgeous. It must cost a ton. I haven't read the full story yet so I can't tell who's the designer of those abayat. I think he/she is a Malaysian designer.

Malaysian Magazines...

most of the magazines for women now use a hijabi as their cover. Look at some of the examples below.

MUSLIMAH has always use a full covered Muslimah as it's cover.


ANIS too stick to full covered individuals as covers.


SERI DEWI & KELUARGA gradually changes the cover concept. This year they have more covered women on the front page. This magazine has more family issues.


NUR was dedicated to professional Muslimahs and always use covered models on the fornt page. I still have the first issue which was sold at RM1 a piece. Remember Najlah Ishak the former TV3 presenter? She was the first model.

And...

DARA.com is for teenagers and young adults. The issues inside usually suitable for college students and the fashion is more trendy.

All these magazines were subscribe monthly buy the Library and I love to look inside for inspirations and new knowledge about fashion, health tips and motivations.

Hijab Styles Compilation

Assalamualaikum to all my dear friends and readers. Thanks for dropping by KakChik's Wardrobe and hopefully there's something interesting here for you. I pray that all of us are always in good health and under the mercy of Allah Ta'ala.

2 days ago I wrote a post about 2 nice hijab styles and an acquaintance asked me what's the magazine that I referred. Here it is... NUR Seleksi 88 Ikatan Tudung which is only RM10.90. You can buy this from my bookshop, MariBaca. If you are interested to have it as your collection.

Let's take a look at some of the styles featured inside the magazine.





This one (pic below) is for the wedding attire.


Actually the magazine is devided into 4 section featuring hijab styles suitable for:

• office
  
• casual
• dinner
• wedding
  

And the BEST thing is they show the step by step of each styles. The not so best thing is this magazine is in Malay because it was published for the Malaysian market. However others also can benefit from this mag.

I have issues with some of the styles because for me they are not really covering the aurah properly. For example, styles that do not cover the chest area. However, if you are creative and know how to improvise, I think you can still use this as a guide and create your own styles.

For me, always try to be ORIGINAL and UNIQUE (this is my motto for Polyvore, hehehe).

Beautiful Colourful Abayats

I really like this one. So sorry, the quality of this picture is not as good as the one inside the magazine. But the colour of the abaya is purplish and I just like the design of this dress. I'm definitely going to buy it if he shop is close by.

Green is always my favourite. Lovely and look at the sleeves, so different.


My sister would really like this one. She's one purple addict.

Muslimah Magazines from Malaysia

Assalamualaikum & a very good evening to all my friends. I always wonder what you are doing while I'm writing this blog? It's 10.31 PM here in Kelantan and I think that maybe most of us are in front of our PCs or laptops surfing the Net, reading & searching for some infos or BLOGGING and some might be sleeping. Alright, to cut it short, I'm just would like to share 4 Muslimah magazines that were published in Malaysia. Here they are:

Clockwise: NUR - MUSLIMAH - DARA - ANIS All of them are for Muslimah ages 15 and above and that DARA focus more on teenagers and early adults. I usually buy and read NUR and ANIS and sometimes MUSLIMAH too. As for DARA, I don't really like their presentation especially the fashion that it presented on the cover and inside the mag.

Let's see what's inside these magazines:

This is the fashion spread inside NUR, Dec '08 issue.

This one is inside DARA, Dec '08 issue. Hmm.. this time around the Muslimah fashion is okay.

And you can see that this is a fashion for more mature women and was featured in ANIS, Dec '08 issue. Previously, I like some of the fashion that were featured in this mag, however lately, I've changed my mind due to the use of couple models (who's not a married couple) and the makeup style. That's my opinion, no one need to agree.

And lastly MUSLIMAH. A few years ago, it's publishing permit was stopped by the G.....t but the company has recently regained the permit and start publishing again with a new format. Here is the coverage on the Eidul Fitr celebration organized by the local Muslimah movement ( I mean in Kelantan - my homeland).

Well basically all the mags contain some standard chapters such as women issues, health, recipes, house management, interior design, Q & A on religious issues, counseling, marriage issues and of course Muslimah apparels. All the mags were published monthly and the prices are quite reasonable, below RM10.

p/s: I'm thinking of subscribing to AZIZAH but not I'm boycotting American dollar, so... KIV.
